No time to shop for clothes?
Want to look great and save money on the latest fashions?
I’ve got awesome news for you. I’ve discovered the perfect way to save money and look great. And guess what? You’re not going to have to drag the kids through endless stores to accomplish this feat. Awesome, huh?
I’ve found a great online company with excellent customer service, a fantastic return policy, killer prices, and a wide selection of cute clothing. What’s the name? ThredUp.
What is ThredUp?
ThredUp is an online used clothing retailer. Folks just like you and me clean out their closets, ship nearly new brand name clothing to ThredUp (for free!), and get paid for their quality used clothes. ThredUp turns around and sells that clothing on their site & app.
I’ve found the quality of clothing to be excellent, and the prices are great too.
How does ThredUp work?
It’s easy to find what you’re looking for at ThredUp. My latest purchase was a fun pair of boots from Banana Republic. Follow along and I’ll show you the process for discovering your own wearable gems:
- Open the ThredUp app (or visit the website)
- Select a niche shop from the menu
- Adjust the filters to narrow your selection by category, size, brand, color, price, or condition
- Add items to your online card and checkout
Easy! Your items will arrive via priority mail. Try them on. If you’re not completely satisfied you can return them to ThredUp for store credit using the included bag.
What are the benefits of ThredUp?
- Shop in your PJs
- Eliminate impulse purchases (your cart is saved for 24 hours)
- FREE returns for ThredUp credit
- FREE shipping when you spend over $70
- Oodles of discount e-coupons available to lower your cost (join the email list for 40% off on your first purchase! Plus, check the front page for available discount codes)
- Sell back your gently used clothing
- Excellent customer service
- High-quality brands
- Reduce waste by purchasing gently used clothing
Need to pare down your wardrobe?
ThredUp makes it easy to sell your gently used clothing for cash.
Navigate to ThredUp. Click on “Sell” at the top right-hand corner of the page.
Click on “order a kit” at the top right on the page. Don’t worrying, you won’t have to pay for a thing. ThredUp will send you a bag free of charge.
All you do is fill the bag with your gently used brand-name clothing and mail it back. They pay for the shipping. Easy peasy!
Keep in mind that ThredUp has stringent standards for what they’ll accept. If they don’t approve all of your items for selling, you can choose to have them donated or returned to you (for a fee).
Who should use ThredUp?
The only category of clothing that isn’t included is Men’s wear. ThredUp sells gently used women and children’s clothing and shoes.
However, men, let me tell you a little secret: your wife/mom/lady friend would love to be surprised with some cash for ThredUp. They don’t currently offer gift cards, but who needs a gift card when cash will do?
When to not use ThredUp
As wise money managers there are times when this handy service might not be your best bet.
For example, they have tons of great kids clothes, but I can often find the younger kid’s clothes that I’m looking for at a local thrift store for less. If I’m looking for a specific item of clothing or shoes, I always check on ThredUp before buying new.
For my older boys (age 9 & 7) I order dress shirts and “sporty” clothes from ThredUp. I am constantly amazed at the great deals I can find on really nice looking clothes for them.
If you can find a better deal elsewhere, do it! If you have time to shop thrift, those prices will generally be better than what you’ll find on ThredUp. However…
…When comparing prices, keep in mind that you can use coupon codes (40% off your first purchase when you sign up) and shop the sale items. This just might make ThredUp a better deal than even your local thrift store.
Check out the “sale” section for great deals on clearance clothing and shoes for women & children.

If you’re interested in spiffying up your wardrobe with ThredUp you can sign up right now and get a $20 store credit after your first purchase. Pretty cool, huh?
