Welcome to money Monday, where I share my highs and lows from a week of money management.
Wise Money Management
My husband is now required to work mandatory overtime during the busy summer construction season. While it’s great financially to get the extra money (he’s paid by the hour), it’s not worth having him gone.
I know, the grass is always greener, and I’m thankful that he has a secure job.
The upside to lots of overtime is that we really tighten up our family schedule so that we’re all available to relax at home in the evenings. This means that shopping takes a back seat to life with daddy. Not only are we earning more, we’re spending less. Not leaving the house is surprisingly effective for controlling a budget 😉 Essentially, we’re forced into earning more and spending less. That’s great!
Remember how last week I told you that I saved money by not going to the store? Well, It worked almost flawlessly… until Friday’s lunchtime snuck up on us. We had a lively, raucous morning at a local playground. With no easy food at home we ended up stopping by Dairy Queen for lunch. DQ actually offers a pretty good deal in between decently priced kid’s meals and a $5 lunch special.
The lame part is that the meal was just… regrettable. Know what I mean? I would’ve rather spent that $20 on some great bread and lunchmeat. If only we had a drive-thru supermarket, I’d be a lot more likely to make a better food choice. The next time I get hungry while we’re out and about, would someone remind me that we have a drive-thru Subway nearby?
