Welcome to money Monday, where I share my highs and lows from a week of money management.
Wise Money Management
This week I saved money by participating in the Kids Bowl Free program. I’m always amazed how many families don’t know about and participate in this program that offers two free games of bowling to kids all summer long.
We really enjoy these evenings as a family. The program is free to sign up for, but doesn’t include shoe rental. Over the years we have purchased several pairs of bowling shoes. These get passed on to the next kid. This results in only having to buy one pair of shoes each season, for a total summer cost of $60 for our family of 8 ($40 in shoes + $20 for the parent add-on).
Mismanagement. Ouch!
Confession time: our family enjoys sipping Starbucks. I know, in the personal finance world that makes us terrible people.
But I don’t care.
If we’ve been out running errands, I enjoy treating the kids and myself to a drink or cake pop.
So sue me.
My Starbucks card is set to reload via credit card when the balance drops below $20. Only, when I last adjusted this reload amount, I somehow set it to reload $100 each time the balance drops below $20.
Imagine my surprise when a $100 charge from Starbucks appeared on the credit card. Ack!
At least we’ll slowly take the balance down with normal spending. No serious harm done, but I hate having money tied up in Starbucks currency instead of a good ‘ol Benjamin.
How did you manage money wisely this week?
