Welcome to money Monday, where I share my highs and lows from a week of money management. It was a plain-Jane week for us.
This week I started planning our 2019 family trip – we’re thinking Hawaii…? In my mind it’s more of a challenge than anything. We’re not your typical “beach” family, instead preferring ice, snow, and harsh landscapes. That’s why we love Iceland so much… and love live in Alaska!

I have a feeling the tropics will win.
Wise Money Management
This week I saved money by getting a $100 statement credit on my Alaska Airlines VISA. The credit was awarded after I met the required spending on a travel card that I applied for three months ago.
This awesome deal netted me a $100 credit (this basically covered the annual fee), 30,000 miles (that’s three round-trip tickets to visit my folks!), and free companion pass.
Sweetness!
I found this deal by keeping an eye on Flyer Talk.
Mismanagement. Ouch!
This week I accidentally double-ordered from Amazon… twice! I now have two sets of a men’s bowling shoe (that I didn’t need), and two bottles of kids vitamins. The vitamins will go into the cupboard and get used, but I’ll be sending the bowling shoes back, a $7.73 mistake.
At least Amazon makes returns incredibly easy (just print off a return slip and drop it off at your local UPS store).
How did you manage money wisely this week?
