On Monday I shared 3 ways that families waste money. One of the ways that families miss out on savings is by not comparing cell phone providers and more utilities (TV, internet, land phone) for the best price.
Comparing Cell Phone Providers & Other Utilites
We’ve done the steps on this worksheet in the past and saved over $50 a month just through my husband making a few calls.
Sometimes you can get pricing information from your service provider’s webpage. Even if you are able to find this data from their site, I’d highly recommend giving them a call also. Talking to a real person provides for possible deals that a website may not offer. You can always ask if they’re running any specials, or if they’re able to “sweeten the pot”.
There’s fierce competition amongst service providers and they want to retain customers. If you end up finding a better deal elsewhere but don’t really want to switch, try negotiating with your current company by explaining the deal that you’ve found with their competitor.
Don’t Forget Customer Service
Finally, remember that good customer service is worth a few bucks. There is a cell phone service provider in our area who has notoriously bad customer service. We would only switch to that company if we could save big time.
A couple of extra dollars a month is worth not dealing with a company that doesn’t care about its customers. On the flip side, we’re happy to support our local telephone company who always treats us well. We’re quick to let them know how much we like them too!

As promised, here’s a printable sheet to help with that process. You might be a couple of phone calls away from significant savings. Clicking on the photo below will take you to the full size pdf.
Find a great deal? I’d love to hear about it!
