Third Party Reviews
Consumer Reports gives the Fire HD7 Kids Edition a great review. The only downside, according to this site, is that the Freetime settings might not provide enough control over kindle content. **This was a common negative amongst the Amazon.com reviews as well. However, more than one purchaser indicated that the Freetime downloads can indeed be customized, it just takes a bit of searching.
The Verge also posted a helpful look at the Fire Kid’s Edition, saying that this offering is likely the best low-end tablet for kids. The Freetime addition places it above the iPad in the parental controls category.
Overall, the Fire Kid’s Edition looks like a frugal, yet well-built, option for Kid’s tablets. The Freetime option makes me wish that we had a similar setting on our iPads!
