Welcome to money Monday, where I share my highs and lows from a week of money management.
Wise Money Management
This week I saved money by bowling for FREE with my family. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Kids Bowl Free is one of my absolute favorite ways to entertain the family on the cheap. This great program runs May-Sept. in many bowling centers around America. Two games of bowling each day, each kid, for free.
Please note that shoe rental isn’t included, but you can:
- Rent the shoes. It’s usually around $2-$3 a kid.
- Go barefoot, the ultimate in cool.
- Make your own from old shoes or a cheap pair from the thrift store. You’ll need a pair of bowling shoe soles.
- Invest in bowling shoes for the whole family and size up each year accordingly. We purchased a couple of pairs of classic rental style shoes for the younger kids, and BSI shoes for the older boys. It ends up costing around $50 each summer for the whole family to bowl nonstop. That price includes one pair of new kids shoes and a $25 fee for adding my husband and I to the kids bowl free program.
Oh Target, how I love and loathe you! I ran into the store this week for some hypoallergenic mattress and pillow covers for my poor little guy who was recently diagnosed with an extreme house dust allergy.
**Quick sidebar: can you believe it? I mean, I’m not the best housekeeper ever, but I keep the place tidied up. Now my lack of Martha Stewart-ness is ‘causing my little love distress? How uncool and cruel. Tips from allergy folk much appreciated. I’ve been dusting/vacuuming/air-purifying up a storm.
Can you guess what happened to my quick little Target trip? Yes, it turned into a kitchen decorating extravaganza.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a kitchen rug on my list for a year. This wasn’t entirely an impulse purchase. The money mismanagement occurred when I gleefully threw a table runner and matchy towel in the cart too.
I blame that hyperactivity on the gigantic flat white I was sipping.
What? Stop judging! 😉
Oh, and please don’t tell my husband that I’m not even sure if I like the color of the new table runner.
