I’m taking a vacation later this year. My first “just for fun” vacation since my honeymoon 14 years ago.
Yes, I’m a tired mama who works hard to homeschool my 5 kids and make our house a sanctuary.
Yes, my husband is an overworked engineer who gives up much of his little free time to a church ministry.
But, guess what? We’re not going on vacation because “we deserve it”. No way!!
We’re going because our finances are on track. We’re working hard to pay off our remaining debt (our mortgage) by December 31, 2018. Our kids’ futures (college or not) are funded, and our emergency savings are firmly in place.
These things haven’t happened because we’ve experienced a financial windfall, or are some sort of geniuses.
We’re no better than any other family.
The only difference is that we’ve taken small, consistent steps towards a better financial future.
Taking a holiday <—- see, I’m already being Europe-ish! because “I deserve it”, is ridiculous. Paying for a trip abroad on a credit card, or even a vacation in the next town over means moving backwards.
Trust me, it feels sooooo good to be making forward movement.
Resist the urge to take a step backward and instead stick with your plan to become debt free. There is no better feeling than booking a vacation, knowing that it will be easily paid for out of savings and won’t interfere with your family’s financial goals.
If you’re looking to stick with your debt free plan (or simply to create on in the first place), might I recommend my new FREE course? Sign up below for this FREE resource that I’ve created to help families change their financial future.
